Reptiles Uncoiled was created by Brian Parkhurst to help people see reptiles more clearly: not as monsters, decorations, or scaled versions of mammals, but as complex animals with needs, limits, and an important place in the world.
Brian Parkhurst is the founder and Director of Hudson Valley Reptile & Rescue and a licensed reptile educator in New York State. He has worked with reptiles and the people who keep them since 2004. His experience includes public education, rescue intake, long-term husbandry, educational presentations, media production, and helping families make more realistic decisions about reptile ownership.
Brian’s work is grounded in a simple belief: people are more likely to respect an animal once they understand it. That requires more than repeating care sheets or correcting strangers. It requires meeting people where they are, answering difficult questions honestly, and showing what responsible care looks like in practice.
Reptiles Uncoiled expands that work beyond the walls of the rescue. It is a home for educational videos, long-form conversations, practical resources, public programs, and stories drawn from real animals and real experience.

Hudson Valley Reptile & Rescue is the hands-on rescue and educational operation behind much of Brian’s experience. Reptiles Uncoiled is the broader media and education platform that carries those lessons to people everywhere. The two are connected by the same values, but they serve different purposes: the rescue works directly with animals and local communities; Reptiles Uncoiled turns that experience into education with a wider reach.
